The Association A Votre Service (AVS) is governed by private law as a non-profit organisation (Association Law 1901) and was created on 13th May 1991. As a registered association, AVS is required not to distribute possible benefits to its owners, but to reinvest them within the structure, which is at the service of the Muslim community.
The Association’s job is first and foremost to trace halal meat from the slaughterhouses to its delivery in retailers’ outlets. To this end, a system of traceability has been set up with codes for single use only, i.e. which are never re-used.
Archives of these data allow to control at any time the date and places of production of all certified products. It allows primarily to detect any possible frauds.
The acronym AVS proves to consumers and professionals that any foodstuffs with the logo AVS contain certified meats whose origins can be traced.
If fraudulent uses of the mark or the logo are noticed, a pre-litigation procedure can be initiated. In the event of the fraudster’s failure to comply, a litigation process can be initiated with the assistance of a lawyer.
These measures are meant to assure Muslims of the fact that the meat they consume is under our control.
Only companies that have signed an agreement with the Association and accept daily control by our employees, are deemed to be approved and may therefore exhibit our certification.
