AVS, a trademark registered with the INPI
AVS is a protected trademark: it was registered with the National Institute of Intellectual Property (INPI). The use of AVS trademark is therefore conditioned by prior authorization by the Association in order to prevent any fraud or other dishonest use of the mark.
The Association AVS has implemented this system of protection for its mark so as to preserve a strict halal quality control. In fact, only butcher’s shops and restaurants, which have signed an agreement with the Association, are authorized to make use of the trademark in their outlet.
This agreement along with its two appendices, a work instruction sheet and the regulations governing the use of the mark, imposes on the signatories many obligations including the exclusive supply of meats controlled by AVS and a commitment to allow daily control of the outlet by AVS agents.
Slaughterhouses and other distributors which are partners of the Association and have signed this agreement cannot however use the mark AVS. On the other hand, they must give access to their buildings to AVS agents so that the latter can identify the meat which can be certified as halal.
Anyone referring to AVS trademark without the authorisation from the Association may face prosecution in accordance with articles L 713.1 et seq. of the Intellectual Property Code.
