AVS is a private non-profit organization governed by the French Law of 1901, created in 1991, whose mission is Halal control and certification.
Certification and control are demanding activities when carried out with seriousness and conscientiousness. Today, AVS employs more than one hundred staff members, of whom 80% are exclusively dedicated to control tasks. Around thirty additional employees, based at our headquarters in Saint-Denis (Paris region), handle administrative, technical, and accounting follow-up.

Halal Certification
Monitoring establishments
The establishments (butcher shops and restaurants) that have chosen to contract with AVS offer their customers only AVS-certified meat products. This is a service (free for butcher shops) that we provide to consumers, enabling them to shop with confidence in these approved establishments.
Certifying brands
In order to help consumers navigate the increasing number of so-called halal brands, AVS has established exclusivity agreements with brands that wish to be certified by AVS. As stipulated in the contract, the manufacturer is therefore required to have all products sold under the contracted brand certified by AVS.
Certifying quality products
AVS promotes healthy halal food (without added nitrites, without mechanically separated meat, free-range, labeled) as well as production processes (from breeding to slaughter) that respect the rights of workers (Muslim or not) and uphold respect for the animal as a sentient being. To this end, AVS pays particular attention to alternative or ethical projects that aim to combine authentic halal with quality.
