The association L214 recently published a video highlighting slaughter practices in a slaughterhouse located in Meaux. The images shown are shocking and the revealed facts must be firmly condemned.
Following this video, we wish to provide several clarifications regarding our role at this site:
Our interventions are limited to only two days per week.
The AVS organization does not certify any slaughter of sheep (lambs, ewes) at this site.
At the request of L214, we received its representative in our offices for a discussion on these matters. We reaffirmed our strict requirements regarding respect for animal welfare, which is one of the pillars of our mission.
AVS relies on three essential foundations to guarantee this respect:
- A rigorous ethical charter,
- A demanding set of specifications,
- A training guide for accredited inspectors.
However, we regret that the title of this video is associated with the Eid al-Adha celebration.
The images have nothing to do with this Muslim religious holiday. While denouncing animal abuse is legitimate, resorting to stereotypes that may fuel the stigmatization of a community cannot be supported. This also goes against the values that L214 has always defended.
Pour notre part, nous prenons la décision de suspendre immédiatement nos interventions dans cet abattoir.
